Took a little while to get back to the Goblin War Giant. When I stopped, I had most of the base coat done, just needed to do some straps and all the trophy heads, but man, the sheer surface area of the rest of the big guy up to that point took so long that I wasn’t really psyched to polish it off, because even though the last things were small, there were a lot of them. But I got there. Once I did, I was really off to the races.
Problem one with the basecoat was the flesh. The speedpaint didn’t look fleshy at all, so I spent a long time trying to repair it and get a variety of human-looking tone out of it. I’m happy with how that turned out. Problem two was the dark leather. Too dark. Hated it. Wasn’t entirely sure I could fix it and was worried I’d fuck it up and have to start from scratch. Good news! I didn’t fuck it up! I did basically repaint it, though, with regular paint. The rawhide edges of both the dark and light leathers are probably my favorite part of the paint job. I did a bunch of other noodly highlight work, especially in the fur lining and the beard, but then I called it quits. I reach a point where I just get fearful that if I keep going, I’m going to ruin it. As it was, I accidentally peeled some paint of his ear and a boot just before I sprayed the fixative, ugh. Anyway, I wanted to do some stripes on the one part of his tunic but decided against it. The giant part of the Goblin War Giant is now, for my money, done. |
