Over the holiday break, the one hobby-centric thing I did was work on the old Goblin War Giant. I decided a while back that I wanted the gobbos to range from vomity green to bright yellow but once I got that done I got stuck a bit on the hair until it struck me to go with shades of blue. I did not realize immediately that this sort of made them look like rabid fans of Marge Simpson, but I also think that faded a bit with the detailing. The shaman, meanwhile, is light blue, as all my magic-touched gobbos and orcs are. Makes 'em look spooky and, well, magic should have a cost and spooky light blue skin is probably getting off cheap.

I hated the way the platform came out so I opted to use Vallejo's elaborate method for painting wood. This took forever. There were three base tones and each of these got two unique color washes. Then I freehanded woodgrain highlights (which, in the moment, looked "Well, I'm gonna have to dump this in thinner, I guess" levels of bad). Then there's a final wash to unify the whole thing. All that time, I still hated it, but then I went to sleep and woke up and came back to it and I slapped some more highlights on and came around on it. I still don't feel over the moon about it, but I am also aware that I am maybe beating myself up.

I saved the shields for last partly because I was never sure where I wanted them to go, partly because I was determined to freehand heraldic devices on them and assumed, since I never attempted something like that before, that I would have to do it several thousand times before I got a result I liked. Shockingly, I whipped through all of them in a couple minutes and I'm super happy with them? Particularly proud of the dentistry shield (inspired by Brux, a band I think my army listens to regularly).

And, yea, he's done. I kinda can't believe it, nor have I really come to terms with the fact that I did it. I think his name is Og. I think the whole army's name is Og's Teeth?
