Escape from New York (1981)

I’m dipping in to some RPG-adjacent board games this week, starting with TSR’s Escape from New York board game.

I enjoy the fact that this exists, that Zeb Cook designed it, that TSR published it and that it is covered in art from early D&D artists. I also like how closely it hews to the classic John Carpenter movie in terms of theme and substance. What I did not enjoy is playing it. At all. So much so that I am not going to bother digging into the mechanics of it (sorry). It’s a board game from 1980; that should pretty much tell you everything you need to know.

Still, I like having it on my shelf, a curious bit of mostly forgotten pop culture flotsam, so it is A-Number-1 as far as I’m concerned.
