The Awful Green Things from Outer Space (1988)

Tom Wham’s Awful Green Things from Outer Space began life in 1979 as an insert in Dragon Magazine 28 and saw an expansion inserted a year later in Dragon Magazine 40. In 1988, Steve Jackson picked up the rights and published AGTFOS and its expansion together as the final installment of its series of Pocket Box games.

This is a two-player game. One player controls the crew of a space ship, the other the Green Things, which are a bit like carnivorous Tribbles. The crew improvises weapons, which have randomized effects (some good, some terrible), and the Green Things try to eat everyone on the ship. The game ends when either side is wiped out.

It is silly and zany and matches the sense of humor of a lot of Jackson games, past and present (like Illuminati and Munchkin). It is also hella random. Like, painfully so compared to modern games. If you want to check it out, SJG still has it in print with, I imagine, much nicer components.
