Things (1993)

Things (1993) is a monster book for Chill. While there are some monsters detailed in the core rulebook, there aren’t nearly enough for a monster-of-the-week sort of game that Chill essentially is, so Things is a welcome edition.

Sidenote: I think Chill is a weird name for an RPG. I get what they were going for – the thing that runs down your spine – but it also, you know, means, like, relaxed, man. There is something similar going on with Things, but it goes the other way for me. I like Things as the name of a monster book for a horror game. A lot. Even if it does make me think of the Carpenter movie.

Anyway. We’ve got a mix of creatures both unique and drawn from folklore. Its a solid selection. The art is a little odd, with original illustrations grouped together on pages, away from the monster entries they illustrate, while throughout the book, clip art from the Dover Treasury of Fantastic and Mythological Creatures (which I posted about in September of last year, weirdly enough) is used as spot illustrations. I’m into that, actually.

Love this DeVelasco cover.
