Instant Rub-Down Picture Transfers: Dragons – Giants – Demi-Humans (1981)

Dragons, Giants and Demi-Humans!

This one, the scale is all sorts of messed up. I kind of love that the elf is the shortest of the gang. And that Tiamat is perfection, even without the wings. Really love the rainbow scales.

Holy crap. I just realized that…well…if you pop back to December of 2017, you’ll find the Imperial Toys catalog from 1983, which uses some knock-off art from the Monster Manual – the red and green dragons. Except, I just realized that it wasn’t lifted from the MM, because the MM illustrations were cropped – it was lifted from these! The artist for the transfer didn’t realize that the red dragon should have wings (or didn’t have the room) and the thieves at Imperial Toys duplicated the error (and added an extra head) My mind, it is blown! (Yea, I know, I am literally the only person who cares, but still.)

I have a strong memory of this sheet too – sitting in my dining room, eating french fries. I was working on a drawing of some wilderness scene and transferred the green dragon to it. That trip to the fast food joint had followed a trip to the mall, where I had gotten More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (the second book in the series, but the first I owned), which was also on the table in front of me. A momentous day, I guess.
