More Monsters!

As I mentioned yesterday, these are traces of the original Monster Manual art, but a lot of them are actually significantly reworked.

The minotaur, for instance, is only a portrait in the original. The night hag is, too, and that is entirely different from the one here (weird that they were OK with not giving the medusa a body, though). The thing I find weird is that they all trick me – they look close enough to originals that I don’t question them, at least when I don’t have the originals to compare them to. They look right enough (or maybe the indulgence of color dazzles me). Another trick of memory, I guess.

Random memory: in the car as a kid, had this sheet. We were going through the drive-thru at a fast food joint (Burger King, I think? Maybe Wendy’s.) and I asked my mom if she knew what a basilisk was. She did, but she knew about the one from folklore, which was of no help in terms of me wanting to know more about this eight legged critter.
