Shadowrun

Polish up your chrome, chummer: this week on the Vintage RPG Podcast, we talk about Shadowrun, FASA beloved cyberpunk fantasy RPG. Within, you’ll find much love for the world building and art, awe for how the game predicts a lot of modern internet stuff, lukewarm reactions to the system and inevitable comparisons to Vampire: The Masquerade, Rifts, Torg and Cyberpunk 2020. A pivotal game in the history of RPGs!

  1. The reason why Shadowrun and WOD both used Dice pools was because some of the designers worked on both, from what I’ve been told.

  2. the amount of dice you roll really got out of hand when Shadowrun released 5th edition. they switched how the difficult rating worked. in 3rd you had a shifting target number and you could play every week for three years and still be rolling less than 10D6. In the 5th edition, you could create a character who had a minimum of 10D6 for a mediocre skill and that was because how you accounted for difficult changed. it was always 5 and 6 on a D6. your bonus now didn’t change that target number but instead changed the number of dice you rolled. honestly, they did a lot of smart stuff in 5th edition that improved how decking worked and with maneuvers and such, but 3rd edition is still overall the better game in my opinion.

Sprawl SItes is a great Book.
Also If you run cyberpunk, get the book: Augmented Reality. It came out about 2-3 years ago. Check it out. Ben, QuestingBeast on youtube did a review of it.
