Sometimes it is nice to just have a knight on horseback.

This is Dragon Magazine 27, from July 1979. The cover art, I am almost entirely certain, drawn from a photograph or postcard of a suit of 16th century armor in the collection of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, with a slight modification to make the horns resemble the medieval burial helmet of Pranckh. Fun! Shockingly, I just looked up the artist credit in Art of Dragon and it is apparently Tom Canty? Like Thomas Canty, modern-day Pre-Raphaelite? Probably most recognizable for his illustrations of Tanith Lee’s work. Kind of wild! He did a couple other Dragon covers but this one is the one that really speaks to his future work, I think.
