Annoyingly, I don’t own Ares 5, but I do own Ares 6 (January, 1981) and this is it! It includes the game Voyage of the BSM Pandora, which is a prequel to Wreck, from issue 2. The artist of that amazing cover, John Buttefield, also apparently designed the game. I can’t find any more of his work, which is a shame. Real excellent pulp sci fi energy here. More googly eyed aliens, please.

Ares was published until 1982 – eleven issues and two special issues in all – when TSR took control of SPI. TSR published an additional six quarterly issues, then folded Ares into the back of Dragon Magazine as a science fiction (and superheroes) section, until July of 1986.
