Judge Dredd Companion (1987)

The Judge Dredd Companion (1987) offers a bunch of new rules and scenarios for Games Workshop’s Judge Dredd RPG. First, though, let us appreciate that excellent Chris Achellios cover portrait of Judge Anderson. Love it.

Inside we have some new skills. We have a guide to transplanting Mega-City One to the UK (which is where I honestly thought it was already). There’s a handy crime generator, tweaks to the combat system, the introduction of supernatural crimes, a fair amount of space dedicated to driving and highways, and a number of scenarios, all of which are solid. The longest one, involving a crooked journalist and a big street race, is pretty involved and quite excellent — if I were to run Dredd, I’d maybe run this? Most of the rules stuff is collected from White Dwarf articles. The best bit is likely the source material on Mega-City’s downtown area. Apparently Tom Baker’s Doctor Who lives there.

Also, did you know that Judge Dredd’s name is Joe Dredd? Knowing this hurts my brain.
