The Fantastic Worlds of Grenadier Supplement (2018)

This is The Fantastic Worlds of Grenadier Supplement (2018), which was produced with a near-identical cover as, well, a supplement to the first volume, The Fantastic Worlds of Grenadier. I don’t have the first one (but very much would like to, if you have a copy you don’t want!) but I assume it is sort of a history of Grenadier, one of the biggest producers of fantasy miniatures in the ’80s and ’90s.

This volume is largely dedicated to ephemera left out of the first book. There are catalog pages, many in pretty high-resolution color (surprising, considering the low-end printing of the era), depicting many photos of miniatures and box covers. There’s an interview with Grenadier’s PR manager, Kim Eastland (probably better known as a prolific author for TSR). While at Grenadier in 1981 (at age 19!), Eastland founded The Grenadier Bulletin, a fantastic newsletter than ran intermittently through the ’80s and into the ’90s.

This is just pure catnip for me. I think, if push comes to shove, Grenadier produced the majority of my favorite miniatures. Most of the ones I bought back in the ’90s (and then left unpainted) were Grenadier. Most of the stuff I’ve painted (since I finally took up painting miniatures back in 2022) have been Grenadier. So, a book of Grenadier eye candy? That’s going to hit home for me in a big way.

For real, Terrence Gunn, reprint this and the first volume!
