We’re covering Iron Maiden’s 14th studio album, A Matter Of Life And Death, released in late August and early September of 2006. The album has a loose theme around war and religion and also being a real slog to get through! AMoLaD received generally good reviews and was named best metal album of the year by multiple magazines. Rolling Stone gave it 3 out of 5 stars, saying the band was aging gracefully but adding they now march where they once galloped. Do our intrepid hosts agree? Find out!

This is the album where I came back in for Maiden after years in the wilderness following Fear of the Dark. It clicked for me big time, a part of their slow march into prog-ness which suited me down to the ground. Didn’t hurt that I discovered it through seeing them play the Brixton Academy in London in 2007, a tiny venue by Maiden standards. They did a benefit gig for Clive Burr as part of their Matter of the Beast tour, and it was my first time seeing them.
Only just started listening to the podcast, so I’m still back in the height of the pandemic listening to Killers at the moment. I’ll have to wait a while to hear what you think of it!
