Legendary Duck Tower (1980)

I am not the only one with a passing obsession for the RuneQuest ducks. Paul Jaquays and Rudy Kraft had the fever when they penned Legendary Duck Tower for Judge’s Guild back in 1980.

I don’t know much about this module as I only obtained it recently and haven’t read it yet. I don’t think I need to tell you that the cover is amazing. It wonderfully mixes Carl Barks’ Donald Duck comics with a liberal helping of Conan. Look at how the duck statue has a sort of pharaoh’s headdress! I think that room is the Death Drake Temple. No, I am not making that up!

Ducks are much put upon in Glorantha. Despite being intelligent and capable, despite worshipping the same gods, their small stature makes them the target of bullying and persecution. They greatly resent both humans and trolls for their rough treatment. The ruined citadel that is the setting of Duck Tower was once a great duck capital, but was sacked by a troll army long ago. Some ducks remain, eeking out a life in the ruins. It’s a bit sad, really.

Bonus fact: The quality of Duck Tower caught the attention of the folks at Chaosium, leading to Jaquays and Kraft penning Griffin Mountain for RuneQuest proper.
