This is Dragon Magazine 119, from March, 1987. The cover painting, by Daniel Horne, is titled “The Real Reason the Romans Left Britain” and the note inside describes it as an encounter between Roman foot soldiers and the demon lord Kostchtchie. I am a little dubious about that, but I sure love the painting, especially the geese? What an odd touch. In a way, I feel like this cover anticipates Larry Elmore’s famous cover on issue 140, which would appear in December of 1988 and depicts a cleric healing a warrior smooshed by a giant.
