Now, Dragon Magazine 20, from November of 1978, is an all time great Halloween cover. Unsigned and uncredited unfortunately, but Art of Dragon Magazine lists it as the work of Elrohir (AKA Kenneth Rahman), which feels right. I guess since this probably hit the mail in October, it made sense to make the November issue the Horrible Halloween Issue in the 1978, but 40+ years later it is a bit of a head-scratcher at a glance. On the other hand, I am posting this in January, so what the heck do I know?

Anyway, fantastic haunted coach drawn by nightmares. That coachman is amazing. The jack-o’-lanterns in the forest are amazing. That silhouetted city in the background that is rendered all spiky so as to read “fantasy city” is amazing. All of it. Would buy a poster of this painting. Would probably buy the painting too, if given the opportunity!
Highlight article inside is the one on demonology, full of rules on making and breaking pacts with demons. Accompanied by a great illustration of a fairly cuddly Orcus by Dave Trampier.
