Wizard’s Revenge Puzzle (1984)

Here’s a jigsaw puzzle of Jeff Easley’s cover for the reprint of the Players Handbook. This came out in 1984, a year after the orange spine books, and features Ringlerun, a mage from the LJN D&D toy line (though I don’t believe he appeared in the cartoon). It is one of the few examples of cross-pollination between the two product lines. Fun thing: the puzzle is called Wizard’s Revenge, which might very well be the name of the painting, which is far more aggressive a title than I would have expected.

Easley’s Monster Manual cover also got a puzzle, as did Elmore’s cover painting for the blue Expert box. I’ve seen some mid-90s puzzles, too, under the branding of “Art of TSR,” which is a bit strange (“Art of D&D” seems way more salable, no?). There are a handful of modern puzzles, too. But not nearly as many as I’d expect! Especially these post-pandemic days when the popularity of puzzles is again on the rise. It’s…puzzling.

SORRY, I COULDN’T HELP IT.
