Fires of Shandarr is pretty great through and through. For starters, it introduces the the “flaming men,” which weirdly rip of Dave Sutherland’s shambling mound illustration — it’s the only set to include them! They might be my favorite. Instead of a regular castle, this one includes a castle that is on fire. That sure ups the ante. The play mat also has plenty of lava.

The box, man, just look at it. Bright red and yellow. Like a hot dog stand, but not. The cover painting is perfect. I’d hang that masterpiece in my living room. And the font! Such flamey curves, such 80s perfection. What a delight!
