D3: Vault of the Drow (1980)

We made it to the end! This is the 1980 reprint of D3: Vault of the Drow. The differences are largely aesthetic – new cover and additional interior illustrations, including one of my favorite in the entire series, of Lolth lowering herself from the ceiling over the adventurers.

Giants, Drow and Demonweb Pits – seven modules (!) – is a hell of a run for a party, certainly for the time. Even now, the way the scenarios are structured as a single, desperate run with no breaks, they ask a lot from players. Eventually, TSR would ask even more. In the mid-80s, the company started putting out ‘super modules’ collecting well-selling series under on cover. Queen of the Spiders collected all of the G-, D- and Q-Modules, with a mind toward playing it after completing Temple of Elemental Evil and Scourge of the Slave Lords. I can’t imagine getting through all that in one piece.
