Castles Book II (originally 1978, this printing later, probably 1981) is a bit better than Village Book 1 in that the castle filled hexes look thought out and interesting. I could get use out of these, with a little work. I still have trouble reading them. The hex lines need to be a light gray, I think, with the map lines staying black. That way my eye wouldn’t go crazy trying to differentiate the two. The spot colors make life infinitely easier in comparison.

The charts are worth the price of admission, though, focused largely on encounters and castle names. The couple of reaction charts — one for drunks and one for ladies of the castle (“Pulls dagger!”) — are the best. I assume the castle building tables are in Castle Book I, which I don’t own, alas!
